Vanessa Lee (she/her) is a Dual Master of Archival Studies and Library and Information Studies student at the University of British Columbia. With an interest in artists’ records, she is committed to surfacing the contributions of those written out of canonical narratives through a person-centered archival practice. As a FOCAS intern, Vanessa is working with VIVO Media Arts Centre, an artist-run centre, in their Crista Dahl Media Library & Archive (CDMLA). The CDMLA holds nearly 8,000 media works spanning 60 years of production by artists, activists, and independent producers. At VIVO, Vanessa is processing videotapes part of Vancouver artist and educator Matthew Speier’s Dance-Video Canada project. Vanessa also works at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery as an Archives and Collections Assistant, where she is processing the records of Vancouver lens-based artist, Taki Sekiguchi.
