Thais Rodrigues Cons (she/they) is a PhD candidate in Rhetoric, Composition, and the Teaching of English at the University of Arizona, with a minor in Information. Originally from Brazil, Thais works at the intersection of technical and professional communication, archival studies, and linguistic justice. She holds an M.A. in Applied Linguistics and a B.A. in English and Portuguese from the Federal University of Paraná.
Thais draws on her transnational experience to conceptualize her dissertation project, which integrates archival, decolonial, and participatory action methodologies to interrogate the exclusionary power of institutional documents at Brazilian public universities. She is also engaged in public-facing scholarly work through open-access and collaborative editorial projects. As a Digital Rhetoric Collaborative graduate fellow and a WAC Clearinghouse New Scholar Fellow with the Revista Latinoamericana de Estudios de la Escritura, she contributes to multilingual, cross-institutional scholarly networks across Latin America. These initiatives are part of her broader commitments to linguistic social justice and servingness.
Her work has been recognized through awards from the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing (ATTW), Computers and Writing/Kairos, the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), the Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication (CPTSC), and the Tinker Foundation.
Beyond academia, Thais has worked in textbook and literary editing, publishing, teacher training, and technical translation. She discovered her passion for writing support through her consultant role at one of Brazil’s first university writing centers; she continues this commitment by mentoring first-generation students and emerging scholars from Brazil through online communities.
