J.J. Watson-MacKay (he/him) is a father and a second-year graduate student, soon to be completing his Master of Library and Information Studies at the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) iSchool. His memory work interests include reference services, readers’ advisory, Black Diasporic studies, research guides, and trauma-informed community capacity building through archives and libraries. Through FOCAS, J.J. interns with Hogan’s Alley Society (HAS) on a community archive feasibility study around Black life in British Columbia. He also works as a Student Librarian on the Humanities and Social Sciences team at UBC Library, and volunteers with few communities and care-initiatives such as the Vancouver Black Library (VBL), iSchool Students of the Global Majority (iSGM) and the UBC Disability Affinity Group.
