Cecilia Lizama Salvatore is Professor and Coordinator of the Archives and Cultural Heritage Program at Dominican University. Originally from a United States territory in the Pacific Islands, Professor Salvatore pays particular attention to archives and cultural heritage in communities that have a strong oral tradition and a long history of colonization and rule by major outside powers. She is currently working with Pacific Island territories and the diaspora to document, archive, and preserve their cultural heritage. She serves on the inaugural Board of Directors of IPIKU, a partnership of local leaders, scholars, and educators from the Pacific Islands of Guam and Micronesia. In addition, she is an active member of IFLA, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, where, at various times, she served as chair, member, or information coordinator, of the Advisory Committee on Cultural Heritage, the Local History and Genealogy Section, and the Indigenous Matters Section.
Dr. Salvatore earned her PhD in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin.
