The School of Information Studies (SOIS) at Dominican University has been a pioneer in educating future librarians and information professionals in the Chicago area since the 1930s. With a strong commitment to empowering students, SOIS connects individuals and communities to the world of information and learning with reason, compassion, and a dedication to service and radical inclusion.

As a leader in library and information science education, we offer innovative programs that equip our students with the skills to thrive in libraries, archives, data management, informatics, web design, digital libraries, and youth services. Our faculty are dedicated researchers and educators, fostering expertise in areas such as children’s and young adult literature, storytelling, outreach programming, information policy, and digital information systems.
With accredited and industry-recognized programs—including our Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Science in Information Management, PhD in Information Studies, and Master of Arts in Youth Literature—we ensure our graduates are prepared to lead in an information-driven world. Our faculty and students engage in research and conversations that challenge oppressive structures, promote equity-minded practices, and advance social justice in the information field.
As a member of the iSchools consortium and accredited by the American Library Association, we uphold the highest academic standards and remain at the forefront of the information sciences. Located on Dominican University’s main campus in River Forest, Illinois, we are deeply connected to the Chicago area and beyond.
